December News

Does anyone else feel like the last three months have flown by? We have had quite a lot happen to us during them.

We had tremendous success with the Entertainment Book Fundraiser. We raised over $3100. One of our Kindergarten students, Kingslee C. was the top seller and won his class a Crave Cupcake Treat. The other top sellers were Adyson S., Colt M., Nova P. and Emily R.E. They all got a turn in the cash machine and won lots of fun prizes as well as cash!

The Scholastic Book Fair was another great success, netting us over $2,000 in books for the library.

We are currently in the midst of our Poinsettia Fundraiser. We’ve never done this fundraiser before, feedback is always welcome.

Last but not at all least, we are gearing up for our biggest fundraiser of the (every two) year, CASINO!

On to some serious news. This past month many of us received a letter from the CBE informing us of an enrolment issue within the German Program. It indicated that if we do not reach 20 registrations in Kindergarten for the 2016 - 2017 school year by March 31st 2016, the German Bilingual Program will begin the closure process. As you can imagine this has stoked the fire and BPAC is working diligently to maintain the program.

We would like to extend the invitation again to ALL parents to join us at our next BPAC meeting. One of our parents, Wayne Jackson, has taken the initiative to write up proposals and a plan to maximize our effectiveness on maintaining the program. He will be giving us a quick presentation and I encourage you all to come. We are making it a social event and want parents to take the time to talk in a casual setting, get to know each other better and perhaps even get to know the school and the challenges it / we face.

We welcome the opportunity to discuss with you how this enrolment issue could affect the ENTIRE school. Please come and enjoy some snacks and chats; the meeting will be in the school library on Monday, December 7th @ 7pm. Hope to see you there.

November News

Hello, my name is Lia Haus and I am your new chairperson on BPAC. I have two children in Bowcroft, one in Gr.4 and the other in Gr. 1. We are all very excited about this school year! There have been a few changes of committee members as well as several new faces coming to our monthly meetings. We'd love the opportunity to share our ideas with you. Details of our monthly meetings and of who and what we are below.

October was a busy month! The flutter of candy wrappers is a sure sign that October is over and it’s time to start planning for winter activities. This year, school council is happy to announce that we will be running a Christmas Poinsettia Fundraiser, you will be receiving the forms soon. We are keeping it simple this Winter as we also have Casino in December. It is our biggest fundraiser and responsible for so many of the wonderful events and supplies we are able to purchase for the school.

We wish to thank all the parents who volunteered at the Scholastic Book Fair last month. The event was well attended by students and parents alike and we were able to raise a fabulous commission for extra library resources.

What is BPAC?
BPAC or Bowcroft Parent Action Club is a group of parents who are involved in planning and providing school resources and opportunities for our students. Besides fundraising, the council has the opportunity to discuss, with the school administration, items and issues that impact the school. Over the years, BPAC council has helped to provide much of the technology found in classrooms, literacy aids, art/sport residencies, playground equipment, school signage and additional resources for gym, music and library.

It is a rewarding experience to be involved in the success of our school and students. Please consider attending a meeting and bringing your unique experiences, insights and energy. Our next meeting is on Monday, December 7. Hope to see you there!

October News

Greetings from Bowcroft Parent Action Club

September was a busy month of fundraising at Bowcroft School. Thanks to everyone who helped to raise money for our school by supporting the Entertainment Book drive. We had some very motivated students who have earned the chance to experience the „money- machine‟ for selling ten books or more! A huge thank you for the many countless hours Lia Haus has volunteered to the fundraiser. The money raised from Entertainment Books is put toward many things that benefit every child in the school.

This month we are hosting the Scholastic Book Fair. It starts on Monday, October 19th and ends on Friday, October 23rd. We need Volunteers for morning and afternoon shifts to help kids select books and develop their wish-lists! Any parents who are interested in volunteering for this great event can email our volunteer coordinator Trish Braaten. Money raised from the book fair goes towards library resources for our school.

Our Casino is scheduled for December 9th and 10th. Every 18 months we have the opportunity to work at Elbow River Casino for two days. This is by far our biggest fundraiser. Last Casino earned us over $70,000. We need volunteers to work day and night shifts. Police clearance is not necessary. For more information, visit: bowcroft.blogspot.ca

We hope you had a chance to say “hi” to us at the Welcome Back Barbeque last Thursday. If not, we kindly invite you to attend our next meeting in the library on Monday, October 5th at 7:00pm. You‟ll be able to meet the folks who endeavour to support Bowcroft School through volunteerism and fund-raising. Meetings are open to every parent/guardian with a student who attends the school. It is a great opportunity to meet Mr. Lowe and Mrs. Zelmer as well as many friendly parents!

This up-coming meeting is our AGM. We will be hosting annual elections for the BPAC council executive.

Enjoy these beautiful days of fall!

September News

It’s hard to believe that another school year is upon us! Nevertheless, the Bowcroft Parent
Action Council is eagerly gearing up for September fundraising and we hope that the
families of our great school will help out with the Entertainment Books again this year. Last year we raised over two thousand dollars, which was used to support every student and teacher in a variety of ways including the purchase of learning resources, art and physical ed. equipment.

BPAC school council meets on the first Monday of every month. It is an open meeting to every parent or guardian who has a child in the school. BPAC warmly welcomes any new or returning parent to attend meetings and get involved in planning and providing resources and special events for our school. Please consider active involvement with this group of enthusiastic parents.

Join us in the library on Monday, September 14th at 7:00pm. Come out and meet the folks who represent the parents of Bowcroft as well as Principal Mr. Lowe and Assistant Principal Mrs. Zelmer. Plus, get the inside scoop on projects and events that are being planned to make this school year amazing.

Have a safe and enjoyable long weekend!

Tara Neish, Chairperson BPAC

June News

Hello Bowcroft Parents,

We kindly invite you to attend our next BPAC meeting at 7:00pm on Monday, June 1st in the school library. This will be our last meeting of the year and an excellent opportunity to see our energetic council and parent group in action. As we wrap-up a successful year of fund raising and providing school support, we look forward for planning for next year.

We'd like to send a special shout-out to Janis Giroux. We are sad to be losing our Key Communicator and the very string pillar of support to our group. Janis has been involved in BPAC for many dedicated years and so we wish her all the best as she moves on to TB Riley. Our fine Treasurer, Susanne Morris, is also handing over the reins next year and is willing to mentor the next treasurer who takes on the job.

In the next few meetings, we will be encouraging people to take on key roles for parent council next year. It is a unique opportunity to be involved in planning and providing resources and special events for our school.

Next year we will be looking for volunteers to help with the casino and various school events through the year.

We hope every student has a fun filled summer holiday!

All the best,
BPAC
